According to the race Web site: Join The White Oak Society in a celebration of winter, history, and canine companions! An 18-mile sprint race up to the famous Gosh Dam Place. The fun starts at the White Oak Historical Site just north of Deer River, Minnesota. Food, frenzy and fur.



FEBRUARY 2012
Apostle Islands Sled Dog Race
February 3-5, 2012
Bayfield, Wisconsin
Sportsmen's Race - 6 dogs (40 miles)





According to race Web site:
The 17th Annual Apostle Islands Sled Dog Race will be held on Saturday and Sunday, February 4th and 5th, 2012. Races begin at 10:00 am on both days, with half of the total race distance completed each day. There are two main races: an 8-dog, 80-mile race and a 6 dog, 60-mile race. There's also a 40-mile Sportsmen's Race, a 6 to 8-mile Family Race and a 6 to 8-mile Youth Race (16 and under). Multiple spectator locations are available with amenities including a warming tent, concessions and bonfires.

According to the race Web site:
"This 35-mile, 6-dog race enjoys the same excitement and energy as the pro-class, including the fabulous downtown Calumet start. Recreational teams will leave immediately following the pro-class teams."

  2. Oh my, Linda. I'm afraid that one is a bit too pro for my speed. But I've registered for Voyaguers Classic Sled Dog Race, which doesn't appear to be to far from Ely. Would be SO awesome to have you come!

  3. So very sorry about our lack of snowcover (melting & rain) this year! KARE11 weather even went crazy with a snow dance last week. Hopeful for Feb/March hitting the trails with your sled!
